Why is it that games don't seem to have cheat codes anymore? I miss the days when you could enter some long 50-button code on the title screen to open up cheats in the game. Why don't they do that anymore? I still remember how to unlock the cheat menus in Mortal Kombat 1 (down, up, left, left, A, right, down) and Mortal Kombat 2 (left, down, left, right, down, right, left, left, right, right) for the Sega Genesis.
Nowadays it's all about unlocking features by beating stuff in the game. While that's okay, I really liked being able to enter cheats without having to resort to a GameShark or some such device.

I miss quality games. These games its all about graphics and sacrificing gameplay because of it. Well, not in all cases but so many games could have been better if they concentrated more on the contents of the ame rather than its apperance.

I also miss the more creative and memorable music that used to be in games. From the Mega Man series to classic Square games like Final Fantasy 6 and 7 and Chrono Trigger to the old Zelda games and even Sonic the Hedgehog. It seems like these days there isn't nearly so much interesting original music in games. Now a lot of games contain music from popular bands, such as the Tony Hawk games, even the WWE Smackdown series. At least in Grand Theft Auto it makes sense because you're hearing it on the radio, and they intersperse it with silly commercials and radio hosts making idiots of themselves.

I hear ya. In DDR though is probably another game where popular music is just fine to play. In fact probably encouraged to play in that case. Dancing to generic music just wouldn't have the same effect there.

That all depends on your overall opinion of DDR, though.

The best part of the GTA radio is not the music. It's great listening to Thor seeling self help tapes in a commercial on one station. Then the interveiw was great as well.

Certainly. Especially since all the best songs from those stations I have on my computer anyway.

I miss the good music too. It seems the composeres worked hard back them, maybe for the very reason they had limited hardware, these days Ive noticed game music is more Jazzy or atmospheric. while thats ok alittle but I much prefer the compistions of Castlevania,Megaman,Final Fantasy and other stuff on the nes. snes too. Sega had some good stuff too actually.

More atmospheric, I suppose that's a good way to describe it. While atmospheric music is fine a lot of the time, I still would like to have more memorable songs in these games. After all, you don't hear the Minibosses covering music from Devil May Cry or Metal Gear Solid (not to knock either of those games, they just provide good examples). No, they play stuff like old Castlevania and Tetris music.

Yeah they just dont have as catchy a tune. Devil May could be atmospheric too just with a rock tough to it or something. I think Atmospheric is what game makers try to go for most of the time these days. I agree that its ok and works and also Agree they should do some more songs with a "melody?" to them

I know one thing I miss from the old games is how cool rpgs used to be. I liked it back when RPGs used to be medieval fantasies. Filled with knights, wizards, dragons and magic. A dash of ancient technology with lasers and war robots is ok and not a problem cause at least thats not the current style of the games time and is still alien to our modern culture. You know like Zeal from Chronotrigger. But otherwise I don't like all this modern stuff in RPGs these days. As of now the only current running rpg series I really enjoy would be the Wild Arms series however thats more of a fantasy themed western rather then like the rpgs of old. Not to put it down in the least, I like this new original western concept, but I still wish there was some good olden style rpgs being made out there. I don't see how hard it would be to make a good fantasy mideval rpg with a good story on a current system. So far the only thing I see like it is Eternal ring.

Other than the ongoing Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior/Dragon Quest series, RPGs of this style do seem to be a thing of the past. And the Final Fantasy series anymore isn't very interesting to me.

Final Fantasy has ceased to be an rpg of that style and should never be looked at as one these days. Its become something weird and stupid and I don't like it at all. In a way the new FF in its current perverted state symbolizes the end of the classsical era of good mideval fantasy rpgs. As for Dragon Quest can't say for sure but its sad that its in the hands of Squeelnix. It doesn't matter. They served their time and a good existing libary will always be around. I just wish the whole gerne didn't fall apart with them. Infact There still used to be many good rpgs still being made on the playstation one. But not so much now on the current generations of systems. Very few and far between. Theres still a little resistance on this front. Legend of Alon Dar was another good looking one along with Eternal Ring that seems to be worth a try. Ah well, Im playing Ogre Battle now and this is more of the kind of thing I like.
