So for all those that are keeping up with the Castlevania storyline I'm curious on what you think. From what I've seen the story has gotten severely worse, altering the past games story plot, and just adding stupid concepts. It would seem that Aria of Sorrow is the last good Castlevania.

It would seem that they made this sorcerer named Mathias that changes his name into Vlad Tepes and then becomes the Dracula you fight in the all the games. This nonsense was done in Lament of Innocence. One stupid PS2 game has altered the series entirely. Great job IGN. SO no longer are we fighting the historical Dracula as most thought, or even a Bella La Gossi (spelled bad I'm sure) but we are fighting Mathais, some random person IGN thought up while he was dismissing Circle of the Moon or saying Sonya Belmont can't fight Dracula because she is a woman.

I'm so far behind in the series that I'll probably never catch up to this anyway. But I've never worried too much about the storyline between the games connecting anyway.

As a fan of Castlevania and someone who is NOT ignorant of its storyline, I feel it has gotten worse over time as well and these new concepts being added are down right stupid. Aira of Sorrow is indeed a good place to warp things up. Castlevania series is pretty much over and lost its way. Some new games in the series being made are good and like the old without the new content but making them on systems like the DS without any hope of TV hook up, is really making CV die out completely.

Yes this is the offcial new way now of CV, and rather then making it a stand alone game it is supposed to account for all the old games that have nothing to with this idea. Which means that the new games being made, may now contain info that support this new way of thinking.
You know Castlevania isn't really supposed to be about the story. Its about a Heros family that keeps training their family down the line how to fight for hundreds of years because Dracula keeps comming back to life. Thats all. How you screw up a story of whats primarily an action game about fighting Dracula is beyond me but it takes real talent. And Lament of Innocences story was not a very well made story anyway when judged on its own merits seperately.

The story has gone to Hell in a hand basket as Golbez and I said so just ignore the new games story if you play them in my opinion. Golbez and me, however, seem to feel that Aria of Sorrow is the end of Castlevania.

After a review of the plot and looking at Aira of Sorrow together with Lament of Innocence and some careful tweaking it is possible for Dracula to be Mathias Cronqvist just as Dracula is Soma Cruz. Its interesting to note that both games came out at the sametime as if to offer a past and a future of Dracula's being. Ill explain later but a lot could be said when you look into the plot of Dawn of Sorrow for DS from wikipedia and seeing what Mathias, Vlad and Soma all have in common especially in regards to Lisa who seems to have been around as much as Dracula. However even with accepting Lament of Innocence as a part of the story, it still requires Mathias Cronqvist to die at some point in time before the 1400s. I think this view makes a lot more sense then Mathias simply changing his name to Vlad Tepes during the 1400s while the historical Dracula was doing his own thing, which is sadly the official Konami position right now or at least it seems to be the case.
