Ravenloft Game

[Kain]

Here is a breakdown session by session of the Ravenloft Game:

Bakar - Caliban Ranger/Barbarian
Storge - Human Rogue
- Human Cleric
Balthazar - Human Rogue, Assassin, yadda, yadda


SESSION ONE

This session had three players. Bakar, Storge, and the cleric.

The group starts in a Darkon Prison. They each got their by their own choosing. the group is able to get out of the cell through the caliban, Bakar, using animal empathy to have a rat eat through his chains and steal the keys from a deaf, sleeping guard in the cell room.

The group then moves onward to find a larger room filled with even more prisoners. The keys Bakar got from the guard are used to free the prisoners and start a prison break. The prisoners agree to stay together as a group.

The group moves into the next room and kills a group of about eight guards and moves to the floor above the one they are on.

They find themselves in a floor with guard's quarters, weapon storage, and pictures hanging of presumably the leader of the prison.

They move upward yet again to find themselves in the main hall of the prison where the prisoners attack the guards here and the group witnesses an incorporeal lycanthrope eating a corpse that promptly disappears allowing the group to get out of the prison.

The group with the remaining prisoners then snead into the town outiside the prison which is called Karg. Here they witness a disease known as the Crimson Death killing many people on the streets of Darkon.

Upon seeing this they decide it's best to get out of town and head into the eatern mountains of Darkon upon the advice of a NPC that broke out of the prison with the group; Toreld.

The group then heads into the mountains only to be attacked by a group of wandering undead at night that results in the death of Toreld.

Bakar decides to find a druid friend from his past and starts to head off to find her when a group of Kargat soldiers on horses approach the group. They demand that the group come with them. shortly after the Kargat show up two men in Gargoyle armor show up with two carriages behind them. They claim to be there to rescue the rogue, my cousin's character, and bring him back to Barovia. The Kargat refuse to hand over the rogue to thier master's enemy in their land.

As a result a battle breaks out that results in the Kargat fleeing and getting hunted down by the more experienced Gargoyles. Bakar decides to head off to find his druid friend while the rest of the group heads with the gargoyles to return to Barovia via the mists; a Vistani was brought with the gargoyles for this purpose.

The group emerges just outside of Vallaki where the group's cleric sends a carrier pigeon to Bakar to inform him of where they are. The pigeon actually arrives at Bakar as he left the group, fun with the mist and time travel, and let him know where they are.

Bakar finds his druid friend who agrees to come with him to Barovia. The two pack up and head to Vallaki and get there in about a week or two time. In this time the group has been waiting for a contact to arrive to talk to them about what to do next, but he has not showed up in the week they have been there.

Once Bakar and the druid show up in Vallaki the session ends.

The name of the cleric is unknown at the moment due to changing players hands, and more nonsense, and I can't recall the rogue/assassin's name.

SESSION TWO

This session had three players: Bakar, the cleric, and Balthazar.

While waiting for the group's contact to arrive Bakar decides to have a copy of his weapon made at a local blacksmith. Because of his appearance a man by the name of Micolai introduces Bakar to the weapon smith to make sure nothing bad happens to him for being a caliban. For a nice price offered, the blacksmith copies Bakar's weapon.

It also turns out that Micolai is the contact the group was looking for. Micolai asks the group to meet him in the church for what he needs help with.

The group is told that below the church is an old crypt that originally was used to bury noble people, however, the old head priest of the church was corrupted by evil and turned the crypt into a tomb of torture, experimentation, and pain.

while he was still in his deities favor, however, he created a strong potion and scroll to cure the strongest of diseases. That potion and scroll is needed by Micolai to help cure the Crimson Death disease that was brought to the Village of Barovia by a spy of Darkon.

The group is told as payment, in the crypt, is a sealed room containing various armor and weapons of fallen heroes and villains that the group is welcome to. However, Micolai warns them that being greedy will have unfortunate consequences.

After this discussion the group heads off to the crypt and Balthazar sneaks in as well joining the group in the crypt. In the crypt the group fights several undead and a grave elemental searching for the lost potion and scroll. Eventually they find the old masters study who is revealed to be named Vandroy. In the study it is found that Vandroy enjoyed torture and black magic of all sorts, not just of divine nature. The scroll and potion is found in the study as well.

Behind the study Balthazar finds a hulking monster that the group is able to avoid fighting thankfully. The group then finds the hidden room with the armor and weapons and takes well earned replacements for their current gear.

While grabbing gear, Bakar accidentally knocked over a suit of full plate causing the hulking monster to awaken and start a rampage. The group is able to get out of the crypt in time without being attacked by the monster. Outside the crypt the group is able to find Micolai along with a man by the name of Lord Vasili talking. The two of them enter the church and easily subdue the monster from the crypt.

The session ends there with the death of the monster and Micolai discussing what needs to be done next.

So we'll aim to play Sunday if at least two people can make it. The only issue is we really have to get going as close to 11 as possible, because we have to end around 4:30.

SESSION THREE

This game had two players: Balthazar (assassin rogue), and Storge (other rogue).

The game started with re-telling the group that they agreed to head to Teufeldorf to deal with the stranger that had gone around killing innocent people while Micolai headed off to the Village of Barovia to help cure the people there of the Crimson Death.

As the group headed off they were confronted with Lord Vasili again who told them that "Under the authority of Count Strahd von Zarovich the XI, I am coming with you to deal with this barbarous villain." The group then heads off to Teufeldorf having a very unusually peaceful and relaxing trip along the way.

Once the group gets to Teufeldorf they see it completely ablaze and several buildings have already collapsed from the fire. Upon further investigation the group sees a man walk calmly out from the inn and summon about 10 undead that attack the group. The man turns out to be Vandroy himself causing the deaths and also summons a blood elemental to attack the group. As the group fights Vandroy and his minions of undead the mists surround them and soon they find themselves engulfed by the mists and eventually, when the mists subside, they are back in Vallaki without Vasili, Vandroy, or his minions.

Confused and angry the group heads off to the village to try to help Micolai, only to find that he never arrived at the village, and he is nowhere to be found outside the village. The town is completely drained of resources from the disease and dead are piling up in a large barn outside the village. At night the undead rise and march towards Teufeldorf completely unaffected by anyone else around them. Once the sun rises they burrow into the ground only to rise again the next night. As the group prepares to follow the undead back to Teufeldorf, they are encountered by an older man who tells them he has been looking for them and can identify the magic items they took form the crypt.

After identifying everything the group slowly follows the undead night by night, eventually arriving in teufeldorf almost a week later.

As the group gets back to Teufeldorf they find that the town has been mostly rebuilt, and any remaining destroyed buildings are being rebuilt by a combination of Kargat soldiers and undead. No "normal" citizens or people can be seen anywhere in the town.

The assassin decides to sneak into the town and ends up entering the sleeping captain's office. He kills the captain and takes a different guard uniform and acts as if he is on duty patrolling the town and what not. He discovers that no people are but only at the neighboring town, whose name escapes me, across the nearby mountains. The assassin confirms the officers and guards are Kargat form Darkon. There is also a massive castle that has been built into the mountain of the town. The speedy rebuilt building suggest that time has sped forward somehow.

As the assassin investigates, the other rogue, the ranger, and the cleric head to the neighbor town and investigate only to find out that after the destruction of Teufeldorf, it was rebuilt out of nowhere with a hulking castle in its stead. The people are deathly afraid to leave their homes. They aren't sure what is going on and no Barovian defenses have arrived to help this invasion. One man speaks of not being able to leave the forest area nearby without coming down with the Crimson Death. He speaks of a cure to the disease in the castle as well. He also says that a tall, dark man talked to him a few days ago about how to get into the castle to get the cure and help these people get back to their "normal" lives.

As the three try to head back to the Gargoyle's secret office, they find that after a certain point, out of nowhere they come down with the crimson death disease symptoms so bad that they fall to the ground. When they stumble back wards to wards Teufeldorf or the other town the symptoms vanish completely.

The three then try to get into Teufeldorf, which is heavily guarded now with the death of the captain, and end up getting captured int he process and get hauled off to the prison of the mysterious castle. They end up seeing the assassin disguised as a guard in the prison. He casts obscuring mist and fights off the other guards in the prison and falls tot he ground to not blow his cover. The other rogue, cleric, and ranger go up a level to investigate with the other prisoners. However, the other prisoners storm ahead and get mauled over after heading into the cafeteria of the guards. The other group members subdue a lieutenant and bring him back down to the dungeon for interrogation.

The group seems to be cornered at the moment.

The game ended here.

I'm aiming to play this coming Sunday the 11th. With it getting closer to the end of the semester school work is getting much more plentiful and I may not get to do the game for a bit after the 11th, so this next session MAY be the last one for the game. It depends on how fst/slow things go. I have something pretty big planned and I'm not sure if it can be done in one session or not. So I hope everyone can make this session.

I haven't forgotten about the game, just waiting for school to die down a bit. Should be sometime in December.

So it I pretty much know exactly what I want to do for this game, but I am working on the enemies right now. Do you recall what level you guys were exactly? Just curious what everyone's schedule is during the week around Thursday thru Sunday (27th - 30th)? Hoping to get the game somewhere in there if at all possible. Hopefully people still remember what happened the first few sessions. Just re-read the notes if you aren't.

saturday the 29th is the last session for my game. and sunday the 30th is starwars, so i'd have to leave early if we played then.

oh, and my character sheet says i'm 8th level, but i'm pretty sure we leveld up last session and i just never got around to it.

So we should be all systems go for Sunday. I've been trying to get some equipment to add a little pazazz to the game and I should have it for Sunday.
