Yoda to Luke: "Do or Do not. there is no try"
it sounds to me like yoda deals in absolute!

I'm still of the belief in order to completely understand and even "beat" your enemy, you have to know their powers, strengths, and weaknesses.
Basically I believe that Yoda was at least exposed to the dark side and maybe even knew how to use some dark side powers, but only used that exposure to strengthen his beliefs in the light side.
