How many Scryb Sprites does it take to kill a first-striking Sengir Vampire in combat?

Depends on weither or not I'm right but I don't think it can be done. As each dies won't the Sengir get +1/+1 from them going to the graveyard.

So say 5 try to kill the vampire then the Sengir would become a +9/+9.

Twelve. Which you could only get through Soul Foundry or some other similar way of copying them. Assuming, of course, that you don't do anything to pump up any of the creatures in question.
This is how it works: the 12 Sprites block the Vampire. He deals his 4 damage (presumably 1 each to 4 different Sprites rather than wasting it all on one creature), and kills them all. He then gets 4 +1/+1 counters, bringing him up to 8/8. Since he's already dealt his damage, he doesn't get to deal the extra 4 damage from the counters he just gained this combat. Therefore, the other 8 Sprites drop their damage on him and send him packing.

Stupid stack manipulation. Well, since it was explained it makes sense.
