If you could put together your own super-group, taking members from any band, living or dead, who would you choose?
My picks:
-Matthew Barlow (formerly of Iced Earth) - lead and backing vocals -Bruce Dickinson (of Iron Maiden) - lead and backing vocals -Zakk Wylde (of Ozzy, Black Label Society) - lead guitars -Jon Schaffer (of Iced Earth) - rhythm guitars -Les Claypool (of Primus, Oysterhead, Frog Brigade) - bass guitars -Chris Adler (of Lamb of God/Burn the Priest) - drums

maynard james keenan (tool) - main vocals ian anderson (jethro tull) - vocals and flute (sometimes at the same time XD) greg lake (elp) - vocals crosby stills and nash - back up vocals adam jones (tool) - lead electric guitar jimi hendrix (the jimi hendrix experience) - lead electric guitar tom morello (rage against the machine) - back up electric guitar justin king - double acoustic guitar les claypool (primus) - lead bassist victor wooten - back up bassist john bonham (led zepplin) - drums carl palmer (elp) - auxiliary percussion keith emerson (elp) - keyboards
i would like to first say that this would be one hell of a band. i could probably keep going, but id end up with more people on stage than george clinton and the parlament funkadelic (if their name is that long, just imagine how many people they had ;-) )
secondly, i really like this thread reno. never really thought about it till you posted it. thanks :-)

First, add Christian "Flake" Lorenz (of Rammstein) - keyboards/samples And replace Les Claypool with Steve Harris (of Iron Maiden) on bass guitar. Incidentally, songwriting for this imaginary group would be done by Mr. Harris and Jon Schaffer.

I've heard that about him, but I don't know how much of it is true. There's probably at least some truth to it, I suppose.

I dunno. From what I heard, they got rid of their first singer, whom they used on their self-titled release, because he was a bad singer. I've heard some songs from that album, this is true. He sucks. Then they got rid of their second singer, whom they used for Night of the Stormrider, because supposedly he didn't get along with anybody else in the band and he was a racist to boot.
After this they got Matt Barlow, the best singer they ever had. With him they recorded Burnt Offerings, Dark Saga, Something Wicked This Way Comes, Horror Show, and Tribute to the Gods. Except for Tribute, these were all spectacular albums with great singing. But around the time of Horror Show, Barlow started to get burned out. After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, he apparently felt that he was wasting his life as a musician. He wanted to quit, but Jon Schaffer talked him into staying. They recorded a mediocre cover album (Tribute to the Gods), and in 2004 they recorded The Glorious Burden. But Schaffer was dissatisfied with Barlow's singing on that album and asked him to leave. Evidently Barlow agreed, because he ended up taking a job in law enforcement or something like that.
Iced Earth picked up Tim Owens as their next singer just after he left Judas Priest when Rob Halford came back. Schaffer and Owens were friends, and Owens as asked to sing guest vocals on The Glorious Burden. They re-recorded the songs, using only bits and pieces of Barlow's singing in the background, and when Owens left Judas Priest, he was made the permanent singer.
