A couple days ago I got a card in the mail from Dell that had a special deal on it, and when I looked at it again today I found out there was a great deal for a laptop on there as well.
So I went onto their website and bought the computer for less than $700, which is (barely) affordable for me right now. It should be coming in the mail in a couple weeks. It has pretty good specs, definitely far above that of my previous computer. And best of all it has 500 gigs of hard drive space so I won't need to lug around my external hard drive at all.
Of more immediate interest to you guys is that this means I will be able to run my D&D game again. I probably won't be able to run right away after getting the computer, but I will try and get back able to run as quickly as possible. This also means we can blow the dust off the Lands of Intrigue board and get that up and moving again soon.
So now my computer is having problems again. It's giving me some bullshit error message at the login screen and won't let me log in to the computer.
I was able to get in through Safe Mode and back up all my stuff again, but when I tried to reboot normally it still won't let me in. This means that I am only able to get online on my mom's computer for the moment, and it's just as well that I wasn't planning to run D&D this weekend because now I wouldn't be able to anyway.
After dealing with Dell Support, my computer is working again. It seems there was a memory problem in the sector where my profile information is stored, but I got it fixed and now the computer seems to be back to normal.
