Now to be fair this plays new 3D games as well as older DS game, but the 3D aspect just plain terrifies me. I can't stand 3D movies, let alone 3D hand held games.

Honestly I don't see what the big deal about 3D is anyway. It's not that impressive and the technology has been around longer than we've been alive.
