The gothic metal band known as Nightwish has recently kicked out their lead singer, Tarja. Go to www.nightwish.com and look at the news table near the top and click the link called "HERE" to read a letter on it.

I just hope a new vocalist doesn't mean their downfall.

Im kind of surprised by that letter. I wonder if its true and if she really acted that unkindly. I suspect it may be somehwhat biased but I get the impression that it was an honest statement. However things may of led to her behaving like that. One of the things I find the most curious is if she really felt Nightwish restrained her career. Couldnt she of seen that it made her more famous then she could of hoped for? there will now be alot of people interested in her non nightwish works thanks to Nightwish. I don't see how she can't see that. The letter also seemed to imply that her husband has changed her abit. maybe shes been influenced to act as she has been. Either way At least Nightwish as it was has already produced alot of good music. Things have beginings and ends. If this is the end of good nightwish then lets just remember and enjoy the old, however if this is the begining of new good nightwish or even better nightwish then lets celebrate. Im sure they will take special care in picking their new vocalist.

In my own personal opinion (which most Nightwish fans would probably disagree with), she was holding the band back, not the other way around. Tarja's vocals are the only thing that kept me from being a big Nightwish fan, because I just don't like bel canto singing in large quantities.
But if half the things said in that letter were true, then she definitely needed to go. And a lot of bands have changed singers and managed to still be successful, such as: Iron Maiden Van Halen Sepultura Black Sabbath (though not as successful as with Ozzy) Iced Earth (on their fourth singer now) Stratovarius

Though they will probably get someone with the same voice style as most people that like the band liked that the most about them, and that their keyboardist is amazing. Though I could understand if you don't like that style of singing. Most people I meet either like it or don't.

I can take it in small amounts, if it's used in conjunction with a different singing style. More like Therion does it.
Oh, another band who changed singers and was still successful: AC/DC. Can't believe I forgot about them.

Lots of bands change singers and I hope Nightwish decides to offer more male vocals as well. Theres a lot of that as is and its good. Although singers are always not the downfall it may be a good thing. Powerman 5000 went to crap and they didn't change singers.

Its a little hard to find but it's in the news box near the top of their homepage that has this as its title: "THE RECORDING OF "END OF AN ERA" -LIVE RELEASE WAS A HUGE SUCCESS." Look for a link that says click HERE.

That's an interesting reponse. I wonder who/if anyone is to blame for this matter.

That's an interesting reponse. I wonder who/if anyone is to blame for this matter. Well, you know that everyone looks innocent in his/her own eyes..., but what's for sure- Nightwish is never gonna be the same again...that doesn't mean that they could not become better though. It's true that Tarja has an awesome voice, but it's not only her out there...I am sure they'll find a good replacement.

Yeah, it's a rare thing for someone to acknowledge their fault in something like this. In all likelihood, the truth is probably somewhere in the middle. Unless we assume that Tarja is outright lying, or that the rest of the band is just out to get her, then what probably happened is she made some comments and did some things that she didn't realize were bothering the rest of them.

even if someone is to blame or not, it is still very sad, nightwish is one of my favorite bands.
