But still I don't have an answer to the question: "How could you create a love poem when you're full of hate?" or "How could you describe and come up with the most beautiful words to describe how beautiful the life is when you can't wait to be gone...to be dead...you hate that life...? How do you think this shift is possible? I don't think it is possible to write love poems or "happy" poems when you are mad or hurt emotionally. I think the trick is to develop your feelings and emotions to not get mad at people or ideas easily or not to get depressed so easily. If you don't get mad or depressed, then you won't have the problem of not being able to write "happy" poems while being in that state of mind.

I think we can express words of love and beauty wven while angered because we are not truely consumed by hate. Just because I'm depressed a lot and have a grim veiw of life dose't mean I feel that way all the time. if life were truley so awful I'd have no fun or no friends. If my pain were really so unbearable why have I not ended it? I believe the reason I can write such things while in pain is because of that shread of hope or faith inside me can be found in all the chaos.

I guess I'll chime in on this discussion, even though I'm not really much for writing (or reading) poetry. I think for most people, a poem is inspired by an emotion. Whether it be painful emotions like sadness, depression, or remorse, happier emotions like love, joy, or reverence, or something in between. I think to write that kind of poem, you need that kind of feeling. Sometimes it will be inspired by a person (particularly the happier emotions), but it could come from a place, an event (or events), something you read about, or any number of other sources. I'm not sure if silly poems require you to feel goofy or not. Most of those are either dirty or children's poems. And I imagine that if you were in the kind of mood that could inspire dirty poetry, you've probably got better things to do than write about it. Some people, I'm sure, can write whatever kind of poem they want to regardless of how we're feeling. Most of those are probably professional poets. I hope for Edgar Allen Poe's sake that his life wasn't as gloomy as his works were, anyway.

I understand that different people have different interests and hobbies... I understand what you meant when you said you're "not really much for writing( or reading) poetry", but I do believe that you have to try in order to know if you like it or not...if you're into it or you're not. If you have never tried it how do you know if you have the talent for writing or you don't? You may have it and not know you have it. If you've never given it a try I encourage you to do it....

I have, though not since high school. And for the most part I hated it. I'm more of a prose person, both for reading and for writing.
