Here's an important question: how are we determining stats? If point buy, how many points, and do you buy 1 for 1 the whole way, or does the cost escalate as the stat gets higher? If rolling, how many dice, do you reroll 1's, 1's and 2's, or not at all?

So I have an important question about Raising Dead as I'm the Cleric. Spell Compendium has two spells that when cast together raise someone from the dead without a level loss. My question to you as the DM is, will there be a % that they'll be raised as undead as the PHB Raise Dead and Resurrection spells work. I'll quote the spells here so you can decide.
Revenance: Level: 4th level spell Casting Time: 1 Standard Action Range: Touch Duration: 1 minute/level This spell brings a dead ally temporarily back to life. The subject can have been dead for up to 1 round per level. Your target functions as if a raise dead spell (PH 268) had been cast upon her, except that she does not lose a level and has half of her full normal hit points. She is alive (not undead) for the duration of the spell and can be healed normally, but dies as soon as the spell ends. While under the effect of this spell, the subject is not affected by spells that raise the dead. The subject gains a +1 morale bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, saves, and checks against the creature that killed her.
Revivify: Level: 5th level spell Casting Time: 1 Standard Action Range: Touch Duration: Instantaneous Revivify miraculously restores life to a recently deceased creature. However, the spell must be cast within 1 round of the victim's death. Before the soul of the deceased has completely left the body, this spell halts its journey while repairing somewhat the damage to the body. This spell functions like raise dead (PH 268), except that the raised creature receives no level loss, no Constitution loss, and no loss of spells. The creature has -1 hit points (but is stable).
So basically what I'm thinking is that it's like casting Raise Dead like the description says, but there is no penalties for being raised like one would normally suffer. I'm guessing the Ravenloft restrictions would still apply, but would they apply to both spells, just one, yadda yadda?
Maybe something like this? Revivify has a 50% chance to fail and have the deceased rise as an undead of your choice other than a Lich. If Revivify succeeds the spell works as intended. Than there is another 50% chance when I cast Revenance that it would just fail. If it fails the individual isn't turned undead as they are already "up" from Revivify, but they would still take the -1 level and have less hit points.
Wanted to throw this out there as its bound to come into play with our group and wanted to give a possible solution to make things easier on you.

Is raising dead bodies really something a holy cleric should be doing?

Yes, yes it is. In D&D worlds anyway.

Is raising dead bodies really something a holy cleric should be doing? Haha nice way of phrasing that to make me sound evil. You see this is how witch hunts begin.

Well it looks like this game and all future games and everything else we do will have to be elsewhere because my basement is now inaccessible forever. My mom is moving her room down there and using hers as storage, so we have to gut the basement and redo everything down there. Alex agreed to host Andy's game so not much is changing. Just that my space to go and relax is now gone.

Maybe. Well I may have at least some temporary good news after talking with my mom tonight after work. This "project" won't happen right away and needs some time to gather all the money for it and what not, so until then we can still use the basement for D&D and what not. Sorry for all the flip flopping, but I'm as annoyed as anyone as this crap keeps popping up out of nowhere.

Back and forth, back and forth. But hey, it's good news, at least in the short term.

There's going to be a minor delay in my game. I need to first replace most of my D&D books as I at one point sold a great many of them. I forget what made me decide I was no longer playing but I hae only a few books now. Thankfully they are practically free these days. It's just too hard to try to plan using books on the computer and limits what I can do when I am even on. Anyway point is I plan on doing the game I just need to order some books first. At least the vey basic ones i'll be using.

I'm more or less broke by now plus after seeing online prices I can't bring myself to pay rettail for anything unless its like new material. The Book of Vile Darkness is all of 11 online. Tome & Blood I found for 43 cents.
