In my room tonight I found a new orange d20. It has a different feel from my purple one and I'm going to bring it to see how it does.

Well we had to bring my grandma into the emergency room today so, as a result, I won't be available this weekend for the most part. That and I'm just not in the mood to do much of anything right now.

Turns out she has Esophagus cancer from smoking and that type of cancer is in-curable. The possible options at this point are to do surgery to remove some of the cancer, followed by radiation or chemo therapy to reduce the cancer cells and pro-long her life as long as possible.

d**n thats really horrible. I'm sorry about that. I know that chemo stuff ain't good. Whats the difference between the radiation and the chemo therapy? If things work out right how long do they think it can be put off for?

Thanks everyone. Not sure how long it will put the cancer off. But basically radiation targets a larger area of cancer, where chemo targets a specific smaller part. The idea is that if surgery can get rid of most of the cancer, then chemo is a better option as it will only target the small remaining part and be more effective. Using radiation when its not really necessarily will just cause further harm to the body.

I thought they be close but thats an important difference. From what you say it sounds like the surgery and chemo option is better.

I've always been suspicious of their ads, but have you guys looked into the Cancer Treatment Centers of America at all? To hear them tell it, they're the best place to look for cancer treatment (although their commercials strike me as very misleading).
On a side note, if there is a D&D game scheduled for this upcoming weekend, I can't make it.

Alright well I'm on break as of 9 am today. I have work but no school thankfully so I'm sure I'll have more time to plan for my game. As for an update on my grandma still nothing new. The doctors are aggravating us. They are waiting for one specific doctor who I guess can do all the tests she needs in one shot. Basically among other things, they have to put a splint in her esophagus that will force the cancer tumor open and allow her to eat food normally again.

Yikes. Well, whatever it takes I guess. I can't imagine having a splint in my throat, that just SOUNDS painful. But it's definitely better than the alternative.

Picturing it, it does sound very uncomfortable. I hope that works right and they get that one doctor quickly.

Well they got the stint in, and she can eat, but nothing tastes good to her so she still isn't eating. So now its up to her to get better so she can go home, and unfortunately...she's losing the will to live.
